At the end of each year I lay out my cards to get a sneak-peak at the year ahead. Knowing what’s coming up inspires me, motivates me, and prepares me. It shows me what to look out for and what to focus on, and I’d recommend everyone to have a reading done for the year ahead or to lay out your own cards.
As with everything in the tarot, there are tons of different ways to do a reading for the year ahead. I always recommend that you lay out the cards in a way that feel good to you, and not in a way that someone else tells you is the right way. However, to get you started and inspired I’ll show you how I read the cards for the year ahead.
When I lay out my cards for the year ahead I draw thirteen cards. The first twelve cards each represent a specific month. I lay them out in a circle, counter-clockwise, starting on the left. The last card I put in the middle. Then I turn the first card, the card on the left, which represents January. I look at it, then journal on it for a while. Sometimes I write a whole page, sometimes just three sentences. I recommend journaling as it is fun to read back what you wrote by the end of the year and how it relates to what actually happened. Next to that, while you journal you’re staring to channel your intuition and all kinds of interesting messages will come through!
I repeat this process for each of the first twelve cards, then I turn the card in the middle and journal on what that card means for me and how it relates to the other cards.
Lastly, I use numerology for an extra dimension. I do this by accumulating all the cards, counting a ‘one’ for each court card. So, The Moon + Eight of Wands + Queen of Swords would be 18 + 8 + 1 = 27. 2 + 7 = 9. Nine is about spirituality and completion, but you can read about each number on the internet. Take into account that you don’t have to reduce 11, 22, or 33 any further, as they have very specific meanings by themselves. The number 10 reduces to 1 as 1 + 0 = 1.
I promise you’ll get something out of reading your cards for the year ahead, it has helped me in the most amazing ways so far. If you don’t want to read the cards yourself, make sure to schedule a Year Ahead Tarot Reading, so you can go into the new year inspired, motivated and prepared!
